My Eternal Portion, David Liu Due to my upbringing, I often accept whatever happens to me, whether positive or negative; I try my best to acclimate to the situations I encounter. Besides, God created us in His image with the ability to subdue our habitation (Genesis 1:28). This train of thought also reflects my relationship with the Lord. Thus, I often go through situations with my own effort, using whatever God-given ability I have. However, as I have begun to know the Lord more by spending time with Him I realize that He doesn't want me to go through my daily human living by myself, just to solve my problems. This is not His main focus. The primary goal of the Christian life is to spend time with the Lord to have Him as our portion (Psalms 119:57a; 73:26), not just for pragmatic reasons. If I realize that I miss the Lord, I'll miss everything. The Lord has no problem in solving my petty difficulties. What is really on His heart is for me to be a loving seeker of Himself. Everything else comes and goes, only the Lord is my eternal portion. As I have begun to know Him I treasure every opportunity to seek His presence. Now when an adverse situation occurs, it is just another opportunity to seek His face. As I build a daily habit of experiencing the Lord spending time with Him to seek Him only, then I can live Him out as my eternal portion whether through rainy circumstances or shiny circumstances.
